ESB, Women in Engineering opportunities, March 23rd to 25th

women in engineering.jpg

This will be our third year running the Women in Engineering programme here in the Cork office with great success.

The programme aims at enlightening female transition years about the exciting and expansive career the world of engineering can offer. We aim to show them all the different aspects of engineering in a fun, interactive but most importantly, informative way. Guest speakers, various activities and trips to ESB locations are all included. We believe in the importance of encouraging more females into the engineering field, and have had success, with members of current staff having completed this programme while they were at school.

This is a free programme based at our Cork Offices (ESB EMP, 6 Eastgate Avenue, Little Island), and is due to take place on the 23rd, 24th & 25th of March. The programme starts at 9.30am, and typically finishes at about 4.30pm. Lunch will also be provided. A full schedule of events will be released upon acceptance of a place on the programme and the return of the consent form.

You are invited to nominate two female students to take part in this programme. How places are decided is up entirely to the Transition Year Coordinator/teachers. We only ask that the girls have a genuine interest in STEM subjects and/ or a career in engineering.

Please return all acceptances and consent forms by the 14th February (please send the consent form as an attached PDF if possible) to olamide.yusuff@esb.ie.

TY Food & Hospitality Students visit CIT& Cork on Ice, Dec 2019.

On Tuesday December 3rd our 4th year Food & Hospitality students were invited to CIT’s Department of Tourism & Hospitality to showcase their artisan food products that they have been working on.

On arrival Dr. Noel Murray welcomed students over delicious refreshments served in the student restaurant. SCS students then presented their products to a team form the Tourism & Hospitality Dept and received invaluable feedback on any improvements they could make.

There was then an opportunity to visit the CIT student’s Food Market and see what a similar project looked like at 3rd level. It was a super morning and a wonderful learning opportunity for our students who will be working on the feedback they received to improve their products for our Christmas Market on Wednesday 11th at our Open Evening.

Next stop was Cork on Ice where students had a fun afternoon ice skating before heading back to SCS after a super day out!
