TY Emerging Coaching Talent Programme, Nov 2019.

35 TY Students took part in today’s Emerging Coaching Talent Programme run by the GAA Rebel Og. The programme involved working towards a Foundation Level Coaching Certificate in both football and hurling. The course was given by Mr. James Mc Carthy, Munster Development Officer in conjunction with Mr. Moore’s TY Sports Administration Module. Many thanks to Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Moore and Aisling, Emer, Emma and Orla for organizing.

Emergency Services Demonstration, Nov 2019.

The Emergency Services of the Skibbereen Area; Paramedics, Firecrew and Gardai put on a car crash scenario demonstation in the school yard yesterday for all TY students. Many thanks to Mr. Liam O Regan and Mr. Pat Fitzgerald for acting as victims. The scene was very realistic with some moments being very poignant. Many thanks to Gary, Des, Don, Chris, Ian, Tom. Adrian, Brendan, Tadhg, Terry, Jonathon and Dan for giving up their time. The School Community is very grateful.


TY Bake Sale for the Mercy Hospital, Oct 2019.

Well done to those TY students who ran a Bake Sale today for the Paediatric Oncology Unit in the Mercy Hospital. All proceeds will go to their outreach programme to support patients in their homes.

TY Students attend The Annual Mental Health Seminar in Cork,Oct 2019

Today a group of our TY students attended the Annual Mental Health Seminar in Silversprings Hotel in Cork.
This is an event organised by the Cork Mental Health Foundation in celebration of World Mental Health Day.

This years speakers included Rory O’Connor from Rory’s Stories, GMC Beats, Graham Craig Ruth and Mr. Liam Doocey.

Congratulations Junior Certs Oct 2019!!

The School Community would like to congratulate our students and their parents/guardians on their fantastic Junior Cert/JCSP Profiles of Achievement today. Their state examination results, their C.B.A’s (Classroom Based Assessments/Projects) and their Other Areas of Learning ( skills achieved over the last three years in sports, school clubs, school events and community involvement etc. ) were outstanding.

Mr. Anton O Mahony opened proceedings with words of praise and a poem of wisdom. He thanked all those who made the day possible. He thanked and acknowledged the contribution of all staff in helping and supporting the students achieve their best. Ms. Majella Ni Charthaigh (JC Co-Ordinator) was Master of Ceremonies and Mr. Tom Foley (Deputy Principal), Ms. Anne Hayes (Year Head), Mr. Patrick Hayes (JCSP Co-ordinator), Ms. Colette Dullea (SEN Co-ordinator) and Mr. Diarmuid O Donnabháin (Deputy Principal) presented the Profiles of Achievement.

Special thanks to Ms. Majella Ni Charthaigh, Junior Cert Co-ordinator and the Junior Cert Task Group of Ms. Jennifer O Donoghue, Ms. Ella Ryan, Mr. Cathal McCarthy and Ms. Niamh Lordan for organising today’s special ceremony. Thanks also to Ms. Hannah Phelan and Mr. Patrick Hayes our JCSP Co-Ordinators. Many thanks also to Ms. Mary Kelleher Fowler and all the office staff for their efforts.

Many thanks to our school musicians and our 5th Year Student volunteers who helped with the music, refreshments and stage decoration.


1st Years Meet TY Mentors, Sept 2019.

This week 1st Year students met with their TY mentors to see how they were transitioning into school life here in SCS.
They played some games in order to get to know one another and checked in with how 1st years were feeling after their first month in SCS.

TY Leadership & Mentor Training,Sept 2019.

Today 28 Transition Year students completed Leadership and Mentor Training facilitated by Pa Cotter from Scala Youth Ministry.
It was a great day where students learned the necessary skills to be effective communicators and mentors to first years students.

Our TY students join Ms.Aine Minihane and her team of volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday in Cara House to work with our community’s senior citizens. The students help out with preparing lunch, chatting and playing music and also do errands up town. Well done to everyone involved.
