Congratulations to our Junior Ladies football team who were crowned Munster Champions today. They beat Mercy Mounthawk, Tralee in Ballyvourney on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-13.
They now go on to represent Munster in the All-Ireland series.

The Candidate Self Service Portal has been designed to be user friendly for candidates to confirm their examinations details and subject entries. A Before You Start Guide is available on the Portal to aid candidates in completing the necessary steps involved. The SEC CSSP helpdesk is also available for assistance from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday for the duration of the portal opening. Outside of these hours candidates can email candidateportal@examinations.ie
The SEC will use the information provided by candidates for planning purposes for the next stages of the examination process.
Can you please advise all candidates in your school that it is essential that they register through the Portal as this Portal will provide candidates with the opportunity to confirm their subject choice and levels, to also allow future access to their results and for the later stages of the process such as the appeals application process.

When the candidate entry confirmation process on the CSSP has concluded, the SEC will then provide schools with a report of the entries (Matrix) for the candidates in the school for review and confirmation.
Where a candidate has not registered and/or a candidate who registered but did not confirm their subject/level choices through the Candidate Self Service Portal their subject/level options will be defaulted to the subjects/levels entered during the October returns process.
Further information and relevant amendment forms will be sent with the Matrix report. It is only after the portal has closed and the matrix has issued that the SEC will update candidate data at the request of school.
We appreciate your assistance at this time in ensuring that all candidates are notified about this process and complete their entry confirmation by the closing date.

Well done to our Transition Years who held a very successful cake sale in SCS yesterday.
The cakes were delicious and enjoyed by all.
Funds raised will go towards covering costs for our upcoming Boston trips.

Well Done to the SCS athletes who were among the 1,000 plus students from over 70 schools in Cork and Kerry who participated in the South Munster XC Championships @Tramore Park .
With medals for the top 6 athletes and qualification to Munster Finals for the top 15 individuals and 4 teams , each of the eight races were very competitive.
Caoimhe Flannery ran superbly to win the Intermediate Girls (u17) 3k title ,in a field of 62 athletes. Ferdia Dennis McAleavey finished an impressive 8th place in the Senior Boys 5k,out of 88 finishers, while his younger brother Ultan clinched the last individual qualifying place finishing a brilliant 15th out of 234 athletes.
The Junior team of Lorraine,Doireann,Maria,Alice,Clodagh,Éabha,Rebecca and Ava finished 11th team out of 21.
Emer had a top 30 finish while Josie and Dovydas gained great experience on their first outing.
Thanks to Ms Ward for accompanying the athletes and best of luck to Caoimhe ,Ferdia and Ultan in the Munster finals in Waterford on Fri 24th Feb. Many thanks also to Ms. Emer Cleary and Skibbereen’s Athletics Club for their continued support.

We are always encouraging the school community to help one another out in carrying heavy materials.
Thanks to Ms. Órla O Sullivan, Mr. Sean Ronan, Ms. Deirdre Hennigan, Mr. Jerome Dwyer from Skibbereen Tidy Towns and Cork County Council for collecting the rubbish.
On Thursday, 2 February, TY students volunteered to help clean up our planet and collected over 60kg of plastic waste.
Rory Jackson, of Ocean Plastics Plastic project has developed an initiative which involves collecting all kinds of data from micro plastics to larger more upcycled plastic along with water samples from freshwater streams and building up a knowledge base of the worst polluted areas, and of coastal changes due to erosion and climate change.
Once the TY students accepted Rory’s challenge (one which they could not refuse) of cleaning Reen harbour to make it sparkle - they were grinning ear to ear and were full of excitement counting down the days to the outing. The students had put a plan in place to slowly but surely play their part in society by trying to make their local surroundings clean again.
Finally, the day of the first clean arrived and the students rushed out the door, adamant to make a mark on their task. The group arrived at Reen knowing there was work to do. It took slim to no time for everybody to get stuck in.
Students went in groups of three and four and scattered across the beach with bags and litter pickers wearing gloves and high vis vests. The students were astonished by the amount of alcohol cans, coffee cups, tyres and bags of recycling. They put their feet to the pedal and put in a good 2/3 hour shift making the beach spotless. The clean-up finally came to an end bringing all of the waste into one big heap weighing a whopping 60 kg.
Rory Jackson led the operation and was very impressed with the effort that these TYs had put in. The Skibb students were in their element and looking back on it, they were thriving during the few hours work. The students really made a mark on this project and plan on continuing to do so over the coming weeks. This was the first trip and definitely won’t be their last.

Transition Year Agricultural Science class visited Michael and Marguerite Crowley's Farm at Bauravilla, Skibbereen.
They learnt about grass measuring, artificial insemination, breeding, calving and grassland management.
Thank you to the Crowley family for giving up their time and sharing their knowledge with the students.

Well done to our TY students who participated in the TY beach clean up last Thursday, 2nd February.
This week, students welcomed the first day of Spring and celebrated Lá Fhéile Bríde.
Students learned about the history and the traditions associated with St. Brigid's Day and participated in different activities in their Religious Education classes throughout the week.
The school was delighted to welcome Ms. Col Conway, a cancer prevention nurse from the Marie Keating Foundation, to SCS today.
All students were told that they can cut their risk of cancer.
Scientists estimate that we can help prevent 4 out of 10 cancers by: not smoking, eating a healthy diet, being physically active, avoiding too much exposure to the sun and limiting alcohol.
