Call for Volunteers and Students

The Asset Management & Sustainability Directorate are planning to host a group of TY students as part of their Work Experience placement in 2024.

The idea behind this pilot programme is to introduce TY students to Uisce Éireann and communicate to them the broad range of STEM careers that are available to them in the future. In the longer term, the aim is to develop an In-school Transition Year module based around the value of water and the role of Uisce Éireann in enabling our communities and environment to thrive.

Why?

According to Engineers Ireland, the numbers of students that chose STEM subjects in 2022 declined by 6%. In particular the students choosing mathematics, physics and chemistry are have declined for two years in a row. Uisce Éireann is planning for steady growth of our STEM based work force over the next decade so we need the numbers of Leaving Certificate students studying STEM subjects to be increasing.

The students in TY now will be choosing their Leaving Certificate subjects next year. It's a perfect time to influence their subject choices and get them thinking about potential future careers in the water sector.

When and where?

The pilot TY STEM Programme is planned for 6th to 9th February 2024. It is planned to host the main group in Colvill House but we may be able to run an event in Webworks if there is enough interest from students and volunteers.

Who can attend?

This initiative is being led by Asset Management and Sustainability but is open to any students of UÉ employees from across the business. Students from a small number of schools in Dublin will also be approached to provide some students if numbers allow. Numbers will be limited to 20 students.
