Tragumna Threshing was held on Sunday 17th of November in Tragumna in aid of a cancer charity called ACT in Cork University Hospital and other local health based charities.
Skibbereen Community School was again honoured to be involved in the planning of the day where we organised the face painting and sold tickets.
A wonderful day was had by all who attended. The Tragumna Threshing committee put a huge amount of effort into this day and everyone agreed it was a resounding success.
From the vast array of vintage tractors, cars, motorbikes, auctions, face painting, competitions, butter making and dog shows there was something for everyone.
Thanks also to this year’s face painting team of Aoife, and Chloe. Thanks also to Ms. Orla O’ Sullivan and Ms. Paula Mc Carthy who organised it.
The countdown had already started for next year and we can’t wait to be involved in this special day.
The wellbeing committee wishes to highlight International Men’s Day 2024.
On November 19th, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. We highlight positive role models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. Our theme for 2024 is “Positive Male Role Models”.
International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.” It is only when we all, both men and women, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society that allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.
Many thanks to Mr. Lynch, Ms. Hennigan & Ms. O’Brien for organising.
Some 4th year Religion students have been visiting the residents of Skibbereen Nursing Home over the past few weeks. A weekly activity that 4th years are getting great enjoyment from, socialising with the residents and making new friends.
Second years took part in a keenly contested Science Quiz.
The biggest decision was on naming the team. It went from the Bright Sparks to the Elements to the Pink Fluffy Unicorns. Lots of discussion and fun was had on route to the final round.
In several classes the winners had to be settled with a tie break round.
Well done to everyone that took part.
TY students enjoyed a day out at Funmanway yesterday.
First years and fourth years were very busy being creative over Science Week.
Each group took part in a poster and infographic challenge respectively.
The standard of submission in the different classes was very high, with some lovely pieces of work completed.
Well done to all students that submitted entries.
Second Years celebrating World Kindness Day and acknowledging Anti Bullying Week in their SPHE and Religion classes.
5th year students took part in the Escape Room Challenge today. Cracking the code using their knowledge of the digestive system allowed them to escape the lab!
Fun for many, frustrating for a few.
Guest speaker, Stephen O' Sullivan from Teagasc, spoke to all 5th and 6th year Agricultural Science students today.
He discussed all things sheep, from lowland and hill production to breeding, feeding, housing and sustainability.
Our students greatly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from Stephen's personal experiences and to ask questions, helping them to better understand the subject.
We are grateful for his time and generosity in helping to enrich our learning community.

She also discussed the benefits of scholarships in particular the excellent UCC Quercus scholarships programme. Thank you to Michelle for taking the time to visit SCS
2nd years took part in an electricity escape room challenge as part of Science Week.
Well done to the winners, Emma Browne and Alianne McCarthy who cracked the code in a record breaking time!
2nd place was Lee Roycroft and Aiden Browne and 3rd place goes to Conall Whooley, Niall Hodnett and Fintan Deasy.
5th year Agricultural Science students took part in an investigation to calculate the population of earthworms in an area on a sunny afternoon.
Earthworms play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, particularly in soil health and agricultural productivity.
Earthworms burrow through the soil, creating a network of channels that allows air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the earth. This aeration improves the structure of the soil, making it less compacted and more porous.
Hard look to our senior boys footballers who were defeated by Mercy Mounthawk today in the Corn Uí Mhuirí.
