Well done to Ignatas, 1B, who used his digital and creative skills to draw and colour this St. Brigid's Day Cross today.

He used the Paint3D app on his device to make it.

SCS Students Visit the West Cork Film Studios

On Tuesday 30th January the 4th year Creative Writing and Film class and Senior LRC students were invited to tour the West Cork Film Studios with Ms. Aideen O’Donnell.

This new facility will provide future opportunities for our students.

It is a fabulous facility and we wish them all the best for the future. 

First Year Retreat - Classes 1F & 1G

This week classes 1F and 1G attended their first year retreat.

TY Students Bake for Red Cross Senior Citizen Party

4th year Home Economics students put their skills to very good use this week, baking some delicious treats and giving back to our community.

They received a request to provide some homemade goods for the Senior Citizens Afternoon Tea Party from the Irish Red Cross.  

SCS have worked with the local branch of the Red Cross before and were happy to help on this occasion as well.

We hope the event will be a huge success.

Well done our 4th year students for their contribution.

Gymnastics

Congratulations to our 1st year Student Ruben on his latest achievement in gymnastics.

He won second place in the West Cork Friendly Gymnastics event held in Clonakilty at the weekend.

Ruben is seen here being congratulated by Deputy Principal Mr Diarmuid O'Donnabháin.

TY Students Visit Logitech

TY students had a great day at Logitech where they got a tour of the prototype building and testing lab.

They also got to test their virtual reality and gaming devices.

A fantastic opportunity to see some career options in the engineering and tech industry.

Thanks to Logitech for facilitating this very educational and fun visit.

Green Schools & Drama Club Party

The Green-Schools and the Drama Club had a great time at a joint Christmas party this year, with pizza, fizzy drinks and chocolate galore. 

Mr.  O'Mahony and Ms. Belton attended.

Mr. O'Mahony had a very difficult decision to make as he was called upon to judge the Green-Schools School Logo and Slogan competition. 

Ms Belton presented the Christmas hamper prize to the winning entry from Alicija Sparazynska (4th Year) for her winning logo depicting a bee on a school crest and her accompanying slogan:

We work for the bees. The  school is working on the Biodiversity theme for their 4th Green-school flag and bees are part of the biodiversity on which we all depend for our survival.  

4th Years Litter Picking in the Community

2nd Year Girls Basketball

Well done to our 2nd year girls basketball team who beat Carrigaline Community School today by 28-21.

1st Year Girls Basketball

Superb debut performance by the 1st year girls basketball team today.

They beat Carrigaline 44-22.

John Paul II Awards Initiative

This week, TYs had a visit from parish representatives Dolores Ruane and Jacinta Crowley.

They promoted the John Paul II Awards initiative that is starting up again in our local community.

We look forward to some of our TY students getting involved in these worthwhile activities. 

Pop up Thrift Shop

Today we opened our doors for our Pop Up Thrift Shop!

There was huge interest and lots of purchases made.

It will be open again at lunch time tomorrow in F04- drop in and bag a bargain and support a great cause!

Internet Safety Webinar for Parents, Wed Jan 31st at 7pm

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

You are invited to an Online Safety Webinar next Wednesday, Jan 31st at 7pm. The event is being hosted by the School’s Management Team and Parent’s Association. The  main speakers will be Ms. Jane McGarrigle from Webwise which is the State's Internet Awareness Centre to promote the safer use of the internet by younger people.

Webwise: Supporting Teens Online 

  • Identify the key opportunities and challenges facing children and young people online 

  • Explore and discuss key topics including online bullying, image-sharing, social media and time online  

  • Examine resources and supports for schools and parents/guardians 

Garda Liam Ryan from the West Cork Division will also be in attendance to give the Gardaí's perspective.

The Field of Stones Writing Competition

Skibbereen Community School is launching a competition for creative writers.  It is called: The Field of Stones Writing Competition.  All SCS students are welcome to enter.  There are Poetry and Short Story writing categories for both Senior and Junior students and a prize for the best writing in each category.
