Ricky Barrett Memorial Tractor Run, March 26th.

The School Community were delighted to support last Sunday’s Memorial Tractor Run in aid of Ricky’s chosen charities. Over 350 tractors took part where they departed from the Mart Yard. Many thanks to those students and staff who drove in the convoy, acted as stewards or provided refreshments. Ricky’s family were extremely grateful for all the support.

West Cork Campus Open Day

Looking forward to visiting our neighbours, West Cork Campus on Thursday 30th March to learn more about the great Further Education opportunities that exist in our locality. 

4th Years at Cara House

4th years are delighted to be helping out in Cara House on Fridays.

We are very proud of their hard work and as you can see from the pictures, they are keeping the residents very happy.

4th Years Attend 'Fáilte Isteach' Presentation

Pictured here are our 4th years attending a presentation course with Ms. Donna Treya called ‘Fáilte Isteach’ with the West Cork Development Partnership.

It was a wonderful presentation on developing language.

It is hoped that going forward we will assist the Ukrainians in learning the English language.

1st Year Boys Basketball Team are County Champions

Congratulations to our first year boys basketball team & to their coach Ms. Marie O’Mahony on being crowned County Champions in the ‘A’ league today.

This makes them the top team in the county and are now through to the All Ireland series.

Well done to all!

5th Year Ecology Field Trip

5th Year Biology students went on an Ecology Field Trip to Fota Wildlife Park on Thursday March 16th. The students carried out a habitat study looking at both the biotic and abiotic factors that influenced the organisms present in it.

Despite the early start and not so pleasant weather students and teachers really enjoyed the day.

100 New Books For the School Library, March 22nd.

The School Library has added a 100 new books to its shelves today. Many thanks to Ms. Evelyn Collins and her team of students for cataloguing all the books and organising the daily loan system. The Library is open to all students during every lunch time.

Huge Success for our TY Musical Cast and Crew at the All-Ireland Schools Drama Comp, March 20th

Congratulations to the cast, crew and school staff of our TY Musical, “Hi-School Musical” on finishing 4th in the All-Ireland Light TY Drama School’s Competition last night in the Everyman theatre, Cork. This was a huge achievement for our school especially after the Musical sold out all three shows in Skibbereen last week. Over 1200 people have seen the show to date. We would like to acknowledge all the hard work put in by the students and school staff which are listed below. Many thanks to them and to our generous local sponsors.

Farewell to our Boston Exchange Students & Teachers

We were saddened to say goodbye to our Boston Exchange students and teachers, after a fabulous 10 days in Ireland.

The exchange has been an incredible success and has left us all with incredible memories. It has been said that “as one journey ends, another begins”. It is so true, as the countdown has already started for the return journey in October.

Skibbereen St. Patrick's Day Parade

We were honoured in Skibbereen Community School to be the ‘Grand Marshals’ in the Skibbereen St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

It was a huge privilege to have our Boston Exchange students walk with us as we led the parade. A huge thank you to Skibbereen and District Chamber of Commerce for all of their hard work organising such a special event.

First Years Volunteer to Face Paint at St. Patrick's Day Parade

We were delighted to be asked by Ms. Helen Dempsey and The Skibbereen and District Chamber of Commerce to organise face painting for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Skibbereen.

Munster School's Sailing Team Racing in Schull

SCS’ Sailing Club took part in the Munster Schools Sailing Team Racing event which was held in Schull on Saturday. The two SCS teams did brilliantly. The SCS 2 won three out of four of their races and so have qualified for the Schools National Championships in Dublin at the end of April which is a fantastic achievement!

Thanks to our coach Ms Carla Nugent for organising the training leading up to the event and for accompanying the team at the event in Schull.

Munster Rugby Blitz, Tuesday March 14th

Well done to our U15 Boys Rugby Teams and their coaches, Mr. Stephen Mannion and Mr. Declan Coppinger who took part in Munster Rugby’s Schools Blitz which was held in Old Christians Rugby Club in Glanmire. The lads played teams from Carrigtwohill, Bantry,  Davis College and Colaiste Muire Cobh. They played some great rugby, won several games and had a particularly great performance against Carrigtwohill in the last game, winning by several tries. Unfortunately they lost against Bantry in the last game. Many thanks to our coaches and Mr. O Brien, First aid Responder.

Hard luck to our Ladies Senior Football Team in the All-Ireland Semi-Final, March 16th

Hard luck to our Senior Ladies Football Panel and their coaches in the LGFA All-Ireland “B” Semi-Final on Thursday, March 16th. They lost to Maynooth on a scorline of 6-11 to 3.14. We wish to thank and acknowledge all the players and coaches’ effort and hard work during this campaign especially during those wet cold winter evenings. To get to the top 4 schools in the country is a huge achievement for these players and their School, their Clubs and their families are extremely proud of them. We would like to particularly thank the coaches, Ms. Ella Ryan, Ms. Anna Ward and Mr. Ger Carey for all their hard work. It is very much appreciated.

Wisking everyone in our School Community a very Happy St.Patrick's Day.

Well done to all our Students and Staff who took part in our St.Patrick’s Day Celebrations in the LRC Social Area and Sports Hall today. The event was organised by the Irish Department and the team in the LRC. Many thanks to them and all the musiciens, dancers and singers. The lunchtime event was followed by a huge ceilí in the Sports Hall for our American Visitors.

Ricky Barrett Memorial Tractor Run, Sunday March 26th 2023

Ricky’s Memorial Tractor Run will start from the Mart Yard on Sunday March 26th at 1pm. We would hope to have as many as students as possible to drive in the convoy to remember Ricky and support the charities he chose. Mr. Fitzgerald has the application forms in G93.

Boston Exchange Teachers Meet Class 1D

We were delighted to invite our Boston exchange teachers Liz and Dave Grindle into class 1D today.

They were made to feel very welcome by all the students.

An interesting discussion followed about the differences between American and Irish schools. We learned that we have many things in common.

We wish to thank Liz and Dave for coming into the class. Many students in the class expressed an interest in participating in this exchange in the future.
