Ava also won the ISTA National Photo Competition. She received her prize in the RDS from the ISTA former chairperson, Mary Mullaghy. The competition was on the theme of sustainability. She captured a beautiful skyline while out walking in Drinagh one evening. Thank you to her teachers Ms. Ita O' Donovan and Ms. Angela Burke for promoting this competition in the school.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin was very impressed with Ava Scarlett's project today at the BT Young Scientist competition.
Pictured here are our wonderful Fourth Years that were helping out at Cara House.
A very pleasant few hours were had by all.
SCS is delighted to be associated with Áine Minihane and her hardworking team.

SCS are delighted to say 2023 started off with a bang with Cara House.
When our students went in, they were introduced to Áine Minihane who was very helpful and welcoming to them as always.
They went around serving teas, coffees, and scones to the different tables and chatted with the elderly people as well. Next, they were sent off to collect messages for them, which they really enjoyed as they felt they were helping to give back to the community in a small way, but it means a lot to all the elderly people.
At 1 o'clock they served everyone their soup and dinner, followed by cake to celebrate one member of Cara House Luncheon Club's 80th Birthday. They lit candles on the cake and sang a big happy birthday!
Even though they were only there for two and a half hours, they all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, everybody was so lovely.
They would all like to volunteer like this on a regular basis as they feel small things like these can make a huge difference to the members of Cara House Luncheon Club. They felt that they learned loads from this experience.

Well done to our 4th years for singing their hearts out recently in Cara House, the Bank of Ireland, the nursing home in Baltimore Road and of course SCS.
Composed mainly of all males, they were very organised, knowing better to include some females and that “behind every good male is an even better female”.
They have a natural ability to sing but have now gone from being self-trained singers to be known as “The Singers” in SCS. In fact they make it look easy with practical advice to offer such as “All you need are the lyrics printed off from Margaret in the office and just sing!” It doesn’t get any easier than that they reassure everyone.
More famous up to now for their football skills on the pitch, the prospect of an All Ireland in the near future is not daunting.. they are going to win that anyway. Interestingly it was performing in front of their peers that was considered more daunting!
Full of festive fun they have a loyal fan base now and on request they can sing anything from ‘Last Christmas’ to ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’.
The school is immensely proud of this new group and we can’t wait to hear about their next touring dates of 2023.
Thanks to their TY Co ordinator Ms. Gretta Burchill for organising and their 4th year Religion teachers too. One Direction watch out!
